The S5603 is the latest 3G touchscreen phone from Samsung. It has excellent features and comes with a large 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen with Samsung's TouchWiz User Interface (UI).The S5603's touchscreen responds well to the finger.

Viewing is possible in portrait and landscape modes. The UI is one of the best and makes the mobile experience a pleasure.

The front panel of the Samsung Star 3G has the earpiece just above the screen, the light sensor and the secondary video call camera on the right. The bottom of the screen has three buttons -- the calling keys, back button and the power on/off or exit key. The calling keys open the call log, while the back button simply takes users a step back from the present screen. The power/exit key directly brings users to the home screen. The phone comes out with a 2.8-inch screen with a resolution of 240x320 pixels only. The low resolution on a large screen results in a bit of pixilation.

It also puts a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and speakers at the bottom left. However, the images that it captures seem to be below average. The S5603 has a slot for the MicroSD card (expandable upto 16 GB) behind the battery. In addition to that there is an Internal storage of 80 MB.

The phone comes with quite a good number of pre-installed applications. There is an Application to Share-pix on several online image portals like Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, Friendster,and MySpace.

First Music Phone from LG

LG KM500 is the first music phone of the company and the first product from their new “M” line. LG KM-500 is a nice mid-sized music phone with plastic case (except for the battery cover which is metallic).The KM 500 is supposed to possess superior sound quality and stand out from other similar devices.The music really sounds quite good; granted, it’s nothing amazing, but for an LG phone it could even be considered a breakthrough.

The player is easy to use and functional enough, but there are some drawbacks. For example, there is no equalizer – a pretty strange fact, especially considering that a fashion phone like LG Secret has it. There is, however, a sound enhancer called Natural Sound.

The 3.5 mm audio jack allows for connecting headphones without the need for any adapters. Regrettably,the location of the 3.5 mm audio jack is somewhat inconvenient. Another problem is that the memory card slot being located under the battery.

When talking about regular phone functions, the KM500 is nothing special – a typical LG device, really. The music capabilities of this phone are much more interesting, however.

The menu and default applications of KM500 will look familiar to the owners of other LG phones, except perhaps for the slightly improved player:

The quality of the sound it produces is on-par with gadgets from other companies. Even though, it doesn’t sound as good as Nokia’s N91 or Motorola’s ROKR E8, K 500 from LG is still a viable choice for your next music phone purchase.

Canon's 5D Mk

When Canon released the 21 MP 5D Mk. II complete with 1080p full frame video, serious videographers were drooling. And after seeing such shorts as “Reverie,” by professional photographers using the video feature to shoot some serious cinematic imagery, the chief complaint was that the 5D Mk. II’s video feature was purely automatic. That there was no ability to control manually the exposure or shutter settings for the video feature, was always a thorn in professional videographers side. No more. According to CNet, a firmware update for the $2500+ camera body is coming which will give photographers the keys to the video kingdom.

The basic reason why Canon left out manual control for video was simply because they considered video to be the “icing on the cake” to the core feature of the camera, which was obviously to shoot digital still images in high resolution. But they did such a great job with the quality of the full frame 1080p video that 5D users were screaming for Canon to release the manual hounds.

The ability to control the ISO, f stop and shutter settings for the 5D Mk. II will allow the camera to become a serious cinematic contender for budding filmmakers on a budget. The new firmware update will be available next month.

This is one of the rare USB drive necklaces that I didn’t envision some elderly secretary wearing around her neck. This one could almost appeal to the glam rocker type instead of the older crowd. Although it’s definitely not subtle, since it’s yet again covered in crystals, it does at least have a guitar shape to it. It’s yet again attached to a chain so that you can wear it as a necklace and always have it on hand.

One different thing about this is that the cap of the drive is attached to the chain. So you don’t have to take off the necklace to use it. My only issue with that is the concern that over time the drive would stop holding onto the necklace quite as well. Leaving the risk that you might lose the drive along with all the data stored on it. If you think it’s worth the risk though, you will be able to store 2GB of data on the drive.

As a cell-phone user who was eager for a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard, I was eager to finally try out the BlackBerry 8830.

The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition is definitely designed for business people on the go. In fact, it claims to be “the first CDMA smartphone capable of roaming globally on GSM/GPRS networks”. This means you can pretty much travel the world without having to change your phone, your phone number, or your e-mail.

I had to admit that using a BlackBerry takes a little getting used to. The 8830 has this tiny track-ball mouse for interface that is reminiscent of Atari’s Centipede video game. However, once I used the Setup Wizard, the BlackBerry opened up to me.

In a matter of minutes, I had figured out how to view my email online, and could surf the web. As a newbie to smartphones, I have quickly discovered that there are some limitations to surfing the web online with a tiny screen.

The Sansa Fuze from SanDisk, is a cool little MP3/4 player along the same vein as the iPod Nano.
Aesthetically the Fuze is a cute little player.The physical UI consists of a rotating front dial which also acts as the 4 navigation buttons with the center button for selection. The display crisp with a resolution of 220 x 176, large enough for watching the odd music video but you wouldn’t want to watch a feature length film on it. Sound quality was good (though as with just about any MP3 player the supplied headphones aren’t the greatest). What most impressed me about the Fuze are the extra features that you don’t find on other (note iPod) players, including:
Built in microphone
FM radio
microSD Slot, a really cheap way to expand the capacity
Easy to transfer files (drag and drop) without the need of propriety software
Though there are a few downsides:
Propriety USB connection, it obviously comes the cable but a standard mini USB connection would be much more convenient especially for charging

I think we all know that what the world needs now, is solar power, sweet solar power. Yeah, I probably shouldn’t be stealing old classic songs and adding green messages to them, but what the heck, it is quite true.

Scosche has recently unveiled a new solar-powered endeavor with the SolCHAT Bluetooth Speaker phone. It is designed to be used in the car, so you can chat and drive without breaking any new laws.

It has a built-in lithium ion rechargeable battery with a solar panel. I’m not certain how efficient this is, as many solar-powered gadgets that I have seen in the past have been historically inefficient.

Fortunately, if there is no sun out, you can recharge the SolCHAT via USB. Of course, a lot of cars don’t have USB ports in them, but times are changing all the time. After all, most new cars have responded to consumer needs and added an iPod dock, so why not a USB port as a new standard?

The new LG’s KU990 is undeniably a slinky number in the world of mobiles phones. It’s a slim and good looking and doesn’t feel plasticky. In simple terms this is a camera that you can ring people on as well as watch TV, browse the web and listen to music. Its large 66 mm touch pad screen occupies most of the front making it look like a tiny plasma whilst on the reverse, a lens encircled by jog wheel used to control the zoom and navigate through menus and adjust volume, gives the familiar appearance of a camera!

Navigation is made straight forward and friendly by the large and sensible icon layout on the touch screen. Helpfully, you can also set the touchpad to vibrate when you touch it – confirming each selection. Although the icons and buttons on the touchpad are a good size, not having small fingers or long fingernails be a disadvantage, but if this is the case, the small extendable stylus on standby. The only slightly annoying thing is the storage of the stylus which dangles untidily from the top of the phone.

I found messaging slightly easier then on my usual phone – being able to swap swiftly from predictive text to alphabetical to numerical. There is also a clever little handwriting entry feature using the small extendable stylus, but disappointingly this led to errors in recognition and was slower than texting via the keypad. You can also text using a QWERTY keyboard if you wish.

The 5 megapixel camera is easy to access with dedicated camera buttons on the side which just as easily allows movie shooting and playback. As with many digital cameras there is an annoyingly long delay between button-press and shot resulting in missed moments when your subject moves – not great for taking pictures of children!

The Sansa Fuze from SanDisk, is a cool little MP3/4 player along the same vein as the iPod Nano. We’ve recently been sent one to play with so here are our thoughts and findings (or a review so to speak).

Aesthetically the Fuze is a cute little player.The physical UI consists of a rotating front dial which also acts as the 4 navigation buttons with the center button for selection. The display crisp with a resolution of 220 x 176, large enough for watching the odd music video but you wouldn’t want to watch a feature length film on it. Sound quality was good (though as with just about any MP3 player the supplied headphones aren’t the greatest). What most impressed me about the Fuze are the extra features that you don’t find on other (note iPod) players, including:

Built in microphone
FM radio
microSD Slot, a really cheap way to expand the capacity
Easy to transfer files (drag and drop) without the need of propriety software

Though there are a few downsides:
Propriety USB connection, it obviously comes the cable but a standard mini USB connection would be much more convenient especially for charging
You bookmark videos but not audio books

I had a chance to try out the new Bodygroom BG2030 from Philips and Norelco, and I have to say that my face has never been so smooth. It was only afterward that I discovered that the Bodygroom is actually designed for all areas below the neck.

However, it worked on my face! What can I say, the product does above and beyond its capacity. If you don’t believe me, check out some before and after pics of a now handsomer blogger after the jump.

The Bodygroom is designed for “sensitive areas” like the underarms, chest, legs, back, and the (ahem) groin area. In case you are worried about cutting yourself, there is a hypoallergenic shaving foil for some extra protection. I’m not certain how small cellular phones are going to be in the future. Pretty soon, they will be as tiny as the one that Ben Stiller had in Zoolander.

Telecoms Korea says that, according to another Korean publication," the world’s first 12 Megapixel camera phone will be unveiled by Samsung at MWC 2009, thus in about two weeks from now".

Nokia on Thursday released three new cell phone models - Nokia 6700 classic, the Nokia 6303 classic and the Nokia 2700 classic. HTC Second Android Phone In May

According to latest news on the web, Nokia is coming up with new Nokia 5710 XpressMusic. More exactly, it is reported to have made an appearance on the company's US website.

Coolest gadget moment of the show so far was when the LG Electronics chief technology officer paused mid-sentence, raised a hand and spoke to his wrist.

Paik Woo-hyun was taking a call on a slim black "smart phone" watch the GD9010. The crowd of hacks was shocked.

"This is really something you'd expect to see James Bond wearing in a 007 movie," Paik said when he took the call live on stage. "It's the world's smallest watch phone."

The phone, will be available later this year, and can be used for email and other online activities. It can also be used as an MP3 player for digital music. And also tells the time.

But small Canadian company, Neutrano, is its competitor as it is also launching its WristFone which packs a lot of action into its chunky black body.

It has a touchscreen, a standard phone keypad, a speaker, a MicroSD memory card slot supporting up to 4 GB cards, and both a WAP browser and a media player on board. You can send and receive text and multimedia messages. It even has a 2-megapixel camera with video recording, a video player, and an FM radio. Phew.

Neutrano is aiming to launch in Europe and the US and price is likely to be around $250.

Sony takes on Flip Video, in Technicolor

Now cheap minicamcorders such as the MinoHD is there in market, So Sony decided to jump in with its own offerings, somewhat annoyingly nicknamed the Webbie HD models. Sony, a leader in higher-end camera equipment, finally came out its own version of Pure Digital's Flip Mino camera, which uploads video directly to the Web via a USB port.

Sony does the minicamcorder in bright colors with a swivel lens.

The vertical-style MHS-PM1 seems a better category fit than the MHS-CM1; though like many of its competitors it lacks an optical zoom, it has a nifty swivel lens mount. It records 1080p MPEG-4 video to Memory Stick Duo media at 1,440x1,080-pixel resolution, and shoots stills at a comparatively high resolution (5-megapixels). Also like many competitors, the software it ships with--Picture Motion Browser Portable--doesn't support the Mac.

The Webbie does 1080p MPEG-4 video and shoots in 5 megapixels. The camera will be available in March for about $170.

2009 Will Be Dull Year For Gaming

Peter Molyneux said in a recent interview with BBC - if 2008 was the year of gaming then 2009 will be just opposite of it.

Speaking to reporters, Molyneux said he thinks 2009's upcoming game releases are "all looking a bit dry...All the triple-A titles came out this Christmas, and while there is stuff in 2010 we can look forward to, off the top of my head, I cannot think of anything next year that really excites me."

I can think of a few upcoming games that excite me: Halo 3: ODST Killzone 2, Halo Wars, BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams, and Resident Evil 5. But besides those, after looking at the upcoming release calendars for the three major consoles, as well as the Nintendo DS and Sony's PlayStation Portable, I have to agree with Molyneux.

As 2008 was such a great year for gaming. It was the year that was headlined by a slew of great titles, such as Fable 2, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Grand Theft Auto IV. Most importantly, it was the year that saw gaming increase in popularity by an astounding rate.

In comparison, 2009 is shaping up to be an incredibly dull year for gaming.
Out of the hundreds of titles that will hit store shelves, only few will be able able to pick a handful out of the bunch. The rest are either derivative games that will offer little value to the gamer or are unknown titles that could set a new standard or fall flat. Based on the information available for most of those games,

But if we step away from games for a moment, what else can we really get excited about in gaming? I dont think that any of the console makers will announce follow-up hardware this year, and unless Sony decides to drop the price of its PS3, don't expect any changes in the sales of the three major consoles.

We might see a DS and PSP redesign during 2009, which would make some happy, and surely one title will make its way to the PC that will captivate audiences the way Crysis did during 2008. And maybe the iPhone will play a bigger role in gaming, thanks to the App Store and its relative popularity.

But that is all we can look forward to? Just one year ago, we were looking down the barrel of what would become, arguably, the greatest year in gaming. It saw the Wii take off, a slew of games receive high marks from most major reviewers, and a couple titles set new standards in the market. Meanwhile, more people became gamers, and the video game industry itself made an even better case that it's the logical replacement for film as the chosen form of entertainment for millions of people across the globe.

Although 2009 will probably see an increase in gaming's popularity (largely thanks to the Wii), it's not shaping up to be a memorable year for those who are already gamers. With just a handful of possibly exciting games, no prospect of hardware changes, and a slew of derivative titles, 2009 looks as if it might be a gaming year that's best forgotten.

We can just hope that all this is not true and in the meanwhile we can look forward to 2010

HP offering free money for old tech equipment

Hewlett-Packard announced on Tuesday- Free money in exchange for their old tech equipment in USA.

HP calls its new program the HP Consumer Buyback and Planet Partners Recycling Program. The program offers money in exchange for any brand of PC, monitor, printer, digital camera, or smartphone HP determines still has some sort of value. It's part of HP's effort to recycle 2 billion pounds of electronic junk by 2010. As of now, the company has recycled over 1 billion pounds.

The HP earlier had a recycling program for years that lets consumers determine the value of their old tech equipment, then receive a credit for that value toward a new HP or Compaq brand product.

But, this new recycling program does not require people to buy anything to get the money for their old tech equipment, although they are responsible for postage when mailing in the item.

It's like Antiques Roadshow for techies, for which you don't need to go to the fair to find out what your attic junk is worth.

HP has a quote Web site for the buyback program that lets consumers input the specs of their old tech equipment and receive a free instant quote.

If you find the quote worth your time, mail them your stuff (at your expense) and HP will mail you a check. Alternatively, you can opt for a "Premium Service" in which FedEx picks up the item or items at your house. The cost of that service is taken out of your final check from HP.

If your tech junk is determined by the online tool to have no value, you're out of luck on the money, but can still opt to mail it to HP for recycling if it's an HP or Compaq brand product.

Given this economy, I'd say it's worth your time to look up the value of your electronic junk on HP's site and make that trip to the post office.

Samsung launching Android phones in Q2 2009

If rumors are to be believed then Samsung will release its first phone based on Google's Android operating system in North America in the second quarter of 2009 for both Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA.

Samsung has reportedly added 30 experts in Linux and Java making a total of up to 80 developers who should handle the development schedule. The news was first reported on the South Korean news site ET News.

"We are accelerating the development process for the Google phone in order to meet the specific need of local carriers," ET News quoted an anonymous Samsung official as saying. "We will be able to release the Google phone in the second quarter of the next year in the U.S. market."

If sources are to be believed then the upcoming Android phone will have:

- a 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus and flash,
- the Android phone is also expected to be 3G capable.
- In addition to this it should be bundled up with some rich functions signature to high-end smartphones Wi-Fi and Bluetooth included.
- It is expected to have full touch screen device.

There is no exact release date or pricing details available. Currently, the T-Mobile G1, manufactured by HTC, is the only Android-based phone available in North America.

Huawei, which had announced that it was developing an Android phone for launch in 2009, indicated that it expected the launch to happen in the third quarter of 2009.

We all know about the Lenovo ThinkPad W700, but I just came to know that Lenovo is planning to upgrade this model with the W700ds, which has one of the coolest features of any notebook, a slide out screen!

The screen is a 10.2 inch LED display that the user can pull out from the side, and has the option of tilting it forward or backward on a hinge. You can’t help but love a feature like this, as a laptop will have an extra screen for word processing, text messaging, or whatever you didn’t have space enough to do on your laptop screen before.

The other features include Intel Core 2 Quad processors and combined with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M GPU. RAM maxes out at 8GB and you can stuff a total of 960GB of SSD / HDD storage into this bad boy. The primary 17-inch screen is supposedly the brightest on the market, and if there wasn't already enough to make you drool, it packs an integrated WACOM digitizer as well (like its single-screened sister, the W700).

Rumor: New Mac Mini Coming to Macworld 2009

Apple will launch an upgrade to its low-end desktop, the Mac Mini, at January's Macworld Expo in San Francisco, according to an Apple corporate employee who contacted Wired.com.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous (to keep his job), could not disclose details about the Mac Mini other than its upcoming announcement at Macworld Expo, which begins Jan. 5. That's where CEO Steve Jobs traditionally launches major products during his famous keynotes (assuming he does indeed show up).

Here's that will be in the next Mac Mini, based on trends seen in Apple's latest products:

* Similar to the MacBooks, the Mac Mini will sport a silver enclosure composed of a block of aluminum.

* Some internal parts will be PVC-free, and combined with its size and low power requirements, Apple will tout this as the "greenest Mac ever."

* For video output, the Mac Mini will use the DRM-crippled DisplayPort for connectivity, which Apple is offering to manufacturers for a no-fee license.

* It'll have a CD-DVD slot loader (i.e. Super Drive). There will be no Blu-ray player, because Steve Jobs believes the format is a "bag of hurt."

* It'll ship with 2 GB of RAM, expandable to 4 GB - up from the current 1 GB, expandable to 2 GB. (The aluminum case should make expanding RAM easier than in the original Mini.)

* It'll ship with at least a 160-GB hard drive.

* The Mac Mini will come in two options with different processor speeds: a 2.0-GHz Core 2 Duo and a 2.3-GHz Core 2 Duo (up from 1.83 GHz and 2.0 GHz).

* Like the higher-end MacBook and MacBook Pro, the 2.3-GHz Mac Mini will ship with an Nvidia video card, making this higher-end model a decent gaming device.

* The 2.0G-Hz Mac Mini will ship with an Intel video card, perhaps the GMA X3100 graphics card found in the low-end, white MacBook.

* The slower model will cost $500, and the faster model will cost $700 ($100 less than the current Mac Minis), in light of the recession.

Taiwan based High Tech Computer (HTC) is planning to launch the Android platform-powered phone (popularly referred to as the Google phone) termed G1 in India this December. The first phone boasting Google Android software, created by a Google-led consortium, it has received mixed reviews from analysts and users.

Here are some points which brings out where the google phone apeales and where it disappoints.

Negative Points

Corporate Email
G1 has a very limited ability to connect to corporate email servers , Unlike the iPhone, Research in Motion Ltd's BlackBerry and most other high-end smartphones sold in the US.

Looks
Google phone lack on the looks front. According to several analysts, Google phone has little to offer new to users in terms of looks.

Like the iPhone, the G1 has a high-resolution screen, which makes easy to browse even those websites that are not specifically adapted for a cellphone. However, like iPhone there is no multi-touch gesture support.

G1 doesn't offer anything more than what most other high-end phones already do. "There aren't a lot of ‘wow’ features on it," told Lance Ulanoff, editor-in-chief of PC Magazine to a news wire.

It supports Bluetooth-headset profile, but there is no stereo Bluetooth and no tethering.

No Video Recording
Like iPhone, in G1 too users cannot shoot video , which is a big negative since video recording feature is today found in most cellphones, even those at the lower end.

Brand recall
As we all know that iPhone came with the back of Apple's huge success iPod music player, But Android is still an unknown brand, though it has google name attached to it.

Also, Google has a name attached with PC world, where it dominates search. But it doest not have the leverage in mobile that it have in pc.

Positive Points

Touch Screen-cum-Keypads
All iPhone's biggest attraction is its touchscreen interface, Google G1 is a step ahead of them. The Google phone's 3.2-inch colour touchscreen slides out to expose a full Qwerty keyboard. The phone also have a trackball.

Also, along with Google Maps with Satellite View, Traffic, and Street View, Google phone also has a compass mode that orients the screen as user moves. Its weight is 158 grams, the phone is similar in size to 3G iPhone, just slightly heavier, and narrower at sides.

3.2 megapixel camera
Google phone comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera with photo-sharing capability. Though 3 megapixel camera may not look too impressive considering the present phones which have higher megapixel. It is higher than iPhone's 2 megapixel camera.

Also, Google phone supports multimedia messaging.

Varied interface
Though the appearance is not much good but features that it offers are good. No sweat, you have the option to go for Google phone from some other service provider. According to Andy Rubin, who developed Android for Google, Google phones' interface is completely replaceable.

Pricing
Google phone will cost $179, $20 less than the 3G iPhone. In India, iPhone sells for Rs 31,000 for 8GB and Rs 36,100 for 16GB.

However, the power of rolly is not on the quality of sound given. With this gadget, you can watch entertaining moves of rolly while you enjoy the music. The five-way nav-pad has volume keys, forward/back keys that double as rewind and fast forward, and a Power/Play/Pause key. A sixth button constitutes an on-the-fly EQ preset switcher. The YP-S2 also has a 3.5mm earphone jack located on one side that doubles as a USB port/charger (converter provided).

The earphones come attached to a loop that goes around your neck and are extremely comfortable. Equipped with Samsung’s DNSe sound engine, the YP-S2 is capable of delivering some really sweet tones. It’s loud enough to keep unwanted outside sounds at bay, and cranking up the volume won’t be necessary.

The Samsung YP-S2 manages a whopping 12.5 hours of uninterrupted music. The company states that it’s capable of 13 hours playback, so this comes pretty close.
